Trio of Incidents

There’s been three good things happening to me these past few days.

Whee, I handed in my resignation today! According to my contract, I still have to work for three more months before I leave, but now I can have a true countdown before I quit and start studying!
I will start at the university this fall, studying Christianity and other religions.

Whee, I’ve bought myself a new cell phone! A Nokia 6103. I have been wanting a foldable cell phone for years, and now I’ve finally bought one! With an autumn-picture on the display, Hedwig’s Theme as a ring tone, and owl hoot as a messager sound, the phone is getting Tabby-like already!

Whee, I’ve bought Harry Potter and the Goblet on Fire on DVD! This is one of the better HP-movies - without a doubt much better than Prisoner of Azkaban! It also has much better behind the scenes bonus material than any of the other HP-DVD’s - something I’ve missed in the others.

All in all, a very happy week for me!

Tabby said:I will start at the university this fall, studying Christianity and other religions.

So how much about the religious aspect do you already know Tab?
Right now I am studying the fundamental aspects of Polytheist and Pantheist, as for monotheist religion well I already know a great deal about them since im a Muslim.

It would be nice to exchange views about other culture and religion with someone who’s interested in them.

  2. Tabris:

I didn’t know that you studied these topics too!

My personal fields of interest are mainly Western mysticism - Qabalah, Gnosticism, Sufi, Martinism…

In addition, I practice Golden Dawn-inspired ceremonial magick. Apart from this, I have an academic interest in most religions and beliefs.

For the moment, I am reading a book about Gnosticism, and I am also working my way through the Qu’aran.

You say you study Polytheism and Pantheism - is Wicca/paganism included in that topic?

Thank you for visiting and commenting on my blog, by the way. :)

  3. Jay2o:

Polytheism is belief in, or worship of, multiple gods or divinities.
In Polytheistic belief, Gods are conceived as complex personages of greater or lesser status, with individual skills, needs, desires and stories. The Gods are not always omnipotent or omniscient; rather, they are often portrayed as similar to humans in their personality traits, but with additional individual powers, abilities, knowledge or perceptions.

While Paganism is more referred to as ‘one who worships something other than God’.
Wiccans believe all plants and animals in the world are equal and will often say a prayer of thanks before doing something as simple as pulling out a garden carrot.

Pagans belive that nature is the source of humanity existence thus calling it ‘Mother Nature’ and at the center of them all is Gaia the living planet.

So I think Paganism and Polytheism are to totally different type of religious.

  4. Tabris:

Thank your for claryfing the terms. :)

I believe the old mythologies of Rome and Greece could be classified as Polytheistic?

Wiccans does also worship several deities, invoking various gods/goddesses depending on the purpose of their ritual. The basis of their faith is the belief in the God and the Goddess. Wouldn’t that be classified as Polytheism?

  5. Jay2o:

Ay, Greece, The Hindu’s, and even anciant Egyptian come from a great pagan legacy.

The wiccan mythology however are very strange and alien to me. It does seem that a minority of the wiccans did worship gods and goddess in one form or another.

Wicca is an Earth religion — an accepting, open-minded faith that celebrates diversity and considers all to be children of the same mother. Gender, age, race, sexual orientation, physical status, family background or ethnic heritage are not important in Wicca.

Ok now tell me some stuff about Kabala, I want to know the origin of my favourite character Sephiroth.

  6. Tabris:

Well. The character Sephiroth doesn’t really have anything to do with Kabbalah.

It is difficult to discuss such topics on a simple comment board, but I’ll give it a try.

Kabbalah is jewish mysticism. Nowadays, it is split into two fractions: Jewish Kabbalah and Hermetical Kabbalah.(One may also say that there is a third fraction - Hollywood Kabbalah ;)).

Kabbalah is often based around a complex symbol called the Tree of Life. This is ten spheres (called Sephira in Hebrew, plural: Sephiroth) connected to each other with 22 paths. This is an illustration of the emanations of God’s creation. It shows the correspondences and connections between various aspects of macrocosmos and microcosmos, since all the spheres and paths can be attributed to gods, planets, tarot cards, alchemical symbolism, colours, etc. etc. By studying and understanding the connections between the various paths and spheres, one can learn to understand ones self and the surrounding world.
