Simple Living

These past few weeks, I’ve been reading a book called simple-living.dk. This book is about how you can change your lifestyle into simple living by throwing out everything you don’t really need or care for in your life, and keep whatever really means something to you. Clean out both your shelves and your mind.

Not everything from that book made sense to me, but the first chapters were so inspiring that I immediately put the book down and started talking to my boyfriend about this. He got just as enthusiastic as me, and we cleaned out all books, DVD’s and console games that we weren’t interested in keeping, and put them all out for sale on QXL, the Norwegian online auction site.

So far, we have sold most of the books and movies we put out for sale. We still have some left, that we haven’t registered there yet, but if feels good just getting this far.

The materialist in me still loves to buy a new cell phone, a game or movie I’ve been drooling over or some furniture in the style I like. Even so, this book is not about selling everything you own and live like a hermit (except for those who truly want that), but it is more about finding the lifestyle that you wish for, the things that really means something to you, and then remove everything else from your life.

This is something I believe in myself, that everything that surrounds me should be something I truly want to have, something that means something to me. Unfortunately, the amounts of things that we own, sometimes get out of hand, and it’s therefore nice when one can find a book like that to get ones mind on the right track again.
